If you’ve got a workout routine at the gym that you stick to, you’re already doing better than many of us. Regular exercise requires motivation and discipline.
Many people find the outdoors more conducive to working out. The fresh air and gentle breeze can offer a nice reprieve from the gym while still allowing you to hit your workout goals.
Here are some tips and suggestions to help you integrate a beautiful summer into your workout routine.
Take a Run on Westborough’s Trails
For every time you hit the treadmill at the gym, take a run outside next time if the weather is nice. You might not know that Westborough is home to a fantastic trail system called the Charm Bracelet, which connects several smaller trails together to form 27 miles of path that circles the city. The path runs through forests and is lush with green trees and plants in the summertime.
Take a run around Chauncy Lake. It’s about 2.5 miles. Or, if you’re feeling more adventurous, head north from there to find an extensive network of trails that go around and through the Crane Swamp Preservation Area, a 2,225-acre chunk of protected marshland. There is a detailed map here. Keep in mind that you are not allowed to bike on many of these trails.

Places to Bike Outdoors
Once you find a running path you like along the Charm Bracelet, bring along your bike next time for a ride. Or ride your bike to work if it’s feasible to do so. The city has a very handy chart that lists the distances between key points in the city. It’s like a bus route for a fitness enthusiast.
